The
Rocaille Suite represents an important stage in the development
of Peacock's work as these were the first works in which
he began to undulate the surface of the painting in order
to resolve and interpret the conclusion of the work.
His
work from 1982 to 1987 was painted and stretched on flat
surfaces cropped (the process of selecting compositions from
long lengths of painted
canvas) to produce hard edge angular canvases with the same crazed formations.
The Rocaille Suite is a turning point in this artists development. Work
from this series is represented in numerous private and public collections
and selected works are available for sale.
Each
work on paper is made by pouring and forming custom
mediums of acrylic paint on a rag paper support dried to
produce fissures ( crazing ) in the paint. The
process produces formations revealing layers of colour
through colour. The layers of clour are physically
manipulated - paint is stirred, allowed to run and
the drying skins pushed and cut throughout the drying process.
The
dried work is physically undulated to further interpret
and
resolve the painted image.
